Concept

Development

Although the looks of the bracelet have changed quite a bit, the essential function has stayed the same. To improve on ergonomics and user-friendliness, the bracelet will now be made out of leather and will be closed by a buckle. Another aspect that has changed is the ring. Even though it may sound quite convenient that the ring can be stored in the bracelet when not used, we’ve decided against this. Our co-designer raised a point that most people with autism have difficulty with change and thus constantly switching between no ring and a ring gave us some concerns that the user may forget this action, thereby rendering the concept useless. Therefore it was decided on an improved system where the users can use their own ring as part of the product. These aspects will be elaborated on in the next few sections.

The bracelet will be made out of (fake) leather, this makes it ergonomically pleasing since it can slightly form around the shape of the users’ wrist. The leather gives the bracelet a more luxurious and mature look. It also won’t draw too much attention to others around the conversation.

Ideally, the string will be worn over the top of the hand, this ensures that the part with the electronics can be worn on top of the wrist which makes the product as a whole more convenient to wear. It might imitate the feeling of a watch, which is (hopefully) something most people are already familiar with.

Materials

The bracelet will have a closing mechanism that might come across as familiar, it is seen in a lot of leather watches and belts. This is similar to a tang buckle, which is made out of stainless steel. The leather strap has a few holes, which indicate the different sizes. The bracelet can be secured to the wrist with a pin that goes through the holes. The buckle is a simple and classic design that won’t obstruct the user in any way.
